
With the winter sports practices now underway the Kemmerer High School basketball and wrestling teams will be back in action. Here’s a look at how each program is coming into the 2025-26 campaign based off last season’s performances.
Kemmerer Girls Wrestling
The Lady Rangers placed third at the Wyoming state championships for the 2024-25 season with a total of 97.0 team points. They trailed only Sheridan (119.0) and Star Valley (207.5) in the final standings. A total of 45 teams competed in the all-class format. The program will have to try and replace Laynee Walker who dominated her way to a state championship but the cupboard is far from bare.
Kaylie Julander is a returning state champion after winning at 140 pounds in her junior season.
Riley Meyer earned all-state honors by advancing to the finals at 100 pounds in her sophomore season and is eligible to return. Ella Kelley placed sixth at 170 pounds as a freshman.
The Lady Rangers begin their season at the Cooper D. Lish Memorial at Marsh Valley High School on December 11-12. Their first home matches will be at the Aimone Invitational on December 19-20.
Kemmerer Boys Wrestling
The Rangers were the 2A State Runner-up last season as they wrapped the state 2025 state tournament with 187.5 points. Moorcroft won the title with 211.5. A total of 20 teams competed at the 2A championships. The team will have to replace some seniors who excelled in 2025, including four-time state champion Roany Proffit. Graison Kelley was also a state champ at 165 pounds and Owen Barton was a champion at 195 pounds. In terms of returning placers, Abel Jimenez was the state runner up at 113 pounds as a sophomore. Ricky Schneider was fifth at 106 as a freshman and Noah Parks was sixth at 150 as a sophomore.
The Rangers begin their campaign at the Wasatch Duals in Heber, Utah on December 12-13. Their first home matches will be at the Aimone Invitational on December 19-20.
Kemmerer Girls Basketball
The Lady Rangers went (7-17) last season which included a record of (1-5) in the 2A Southwest. The team ranked 13th out of 14 teams in scoring offense, averaging 33.4 points per game. Tongue River led the 2A classification with an average of 55.4 points per game.
The Lady Rangers shot 29.6% from the field, ranking 12 of 14 teams. Kemmerer ranked last in team rebounding at 24.7 per contest.
The Lady Rangers’ defense was where the team hung their hat as they ranked fourth out of 14 teams, allowing 40.5 points per game, trailing only Tongue River, Pine Bluffs and Rocky Mountain. Kemmerer did not qualify for the state tournament after going 0-2 at the 2A West Regionals with losses to Rocky Mountain and Greybull.
The Lady Rangers begin the 2025-26 schedule with games at the Bridger Valley Tournament on December 12-13. Their first home games will be during the Fossil County Classic on January 2-3.
Kemmerer Boys Basketball
The Rangers went (7-18) overall last season which included a record of (2-4) in the 2A Southwest. The team ranked 10th out of 14 teams in scoring per game, averaging 43.5 points per contest. Wright led the 2A classification with 72.6 points per contest. The Rangers shot 34.7% for the 24-25 season, ranking 12th of 14 teams. Kemmerer ranked 7th in rebounding at 29.4 per game. The team ranked 12th in defense, allowing 59.4 points per game. Thermopolist led this category at 43.5 per game. The Rangers did not qualify for the 2A state tournament. They fell to Rocky Mountain at the 2A West Regionals before defeating Greybull. The team was then eliminated by Thermopolis who was upset by eventual regional champion, Wyoming Indian.
