The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission made a stop in Kemmerer at the construction site of TerraPower’s Natrium project.
In a post on Linkedin, the NRC stated that Chairman Ho Nieh was “in Wyoming checking out the latest developments at TerraPower’s Kemmerer site, where the company is building non-nuclear support structures for its proposed Natrium power plant. A final NRC decision is expected soon. If approved, this would be the first sodium-cooled commercial reactor under NRC oversight.”
Chris Levesque, President and CEO of TerraPower, posted “It was an honor to host U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Chairman Ho Nieh and his team at the Natrium site in Kemmerer. Out team has been hard at work on the non-nuclear portions of the project, and we were proud to share our progress with Chairman Nieh.”
Construction of the facility continues to ramp up heading into the spring and summer of 2026. Last October the NRC issued it’s first Environmental Impact Statement for the commercial advanced nuclear power plant, finding “no adverse impact to the environment.”
