Kemmerer Track and Field teams both near the top of the podium at Evanston Invite

Kemmerer’s track and field teams delivered a strong all-around showing Wednesday at the Rick & Wendy Schueller Invitational, highlighted by a runner-up finish from the boys and a fourth-place effort from the girls.

The Kemmerer boys scored 76 points to place second overall, while the Lady Rangers totaled 79 points to finish fourth in a competitive field featuring several southwest Wyoming programs.

The Rangers’ boys team picked up two individual titles and a relay win to fuel their runner-up finish. Brent Erickson won the 1600 meters in 5:01, while Carlos Schneider captured the 3200 meters in 12:41. Kemmerer also took first in the 4×800 relay, where Erickson, Bowman Sandall, Chase Benson and Kane Jimenez combined for a winning time of 9:20.

Dawson Crosland added key points in the hurdles, placing fourth in the 110 hurdles (19.26) and third in the 300 hurdles (45.25). The Rangers also earned a third-place finish in the 4×100 relay (49.41).

In the field events, Chase Benson placed sixth in the triple jump at 37 feet even, while Sam Thatcher took seventh in the discus at 123 feet, 6 inches. Abram Hartmann finished sixth in the shot put at 39 feet, 5 inches. Bowman Sandall added a third-place finish in the pole vault at 11 feet, 6 inches, and Kane Jimenez placed fourth in the high jump at 5 feet, 5 inches.

Wyatt Miller and Jacob Platt also contributed in the vertical jumps, with Miller finishing seventh in the high jump (5-1) and Platt seventh in the pole vault (9-6).

On the girls side, Kemmerer earned a balanced set of points across sprints, distance, throws and relays, highlighted by a win in the 300-meter hurdles.

Claire Crosland captured first in the 300 hurdles in 52.11 seconds and added a third-place finish in the 100 meters (17.75). Riley Meyer also scored twice in the hurdles, placing third in the 300 hurdles (53.05) and third in the pole vault (7-6). Meyer was also part of the Lady Rangers’ third-place 4×400 relay team.

Peyton Scherr led the distance group with two third-place finishes in the 800 (2:47) and 1600 (6:25). Hadlee Wood contributed in both throws, placing third in the discus (109-6) and fourth in the shot put (29-3.5).

Lilly Lozier added a seventh-place finish in the high jump (4-7) and helped on relay teams, including the fourth-place 4×100 and third-place 4×400 squads. Kemmerer also placed third in the 4×800 relay (11:57), along with a fourth-place finish in the 4×100 relay (58.21).

The combined effort from both squads helped Kemmerer leave Evanston with two top-four team finishes and multiple individual event wins.
