Our nation’s founders held a strong belief in seeking divine guidance and protection, and the first Continental Congress called for a National Day of Prayer and fasting in 1775. In the midst of the Civil War in 1863 President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed a National Day of Prayer. In 1952 Congress passed a joint resolution establishing a National Day of Prayer without specifying a recurring date and every President since then has signed a proclamation for a National Day of Prayer. In 1988 President Ronald Reagan officially designated the first Thursday in May as the National Day of Prayer.
This year marks the 75th anniversary of our National Day of Prayer. As our founding fathers recognized, our Nation depends on divine providence and that is just as true today as it was at the founding of our great nation.
We invite everyone in Star Valley to join at 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 7th in prayer for our nation, state, and communities. It is our prayer that God will bless our nation with peace as we recognize that all good comes from Him. We know that as more people turn to God in prayer and allow His influence in their lives, He will pour His blessings out upon us.
Wherever you are on the morning of May 7th at 7:30, we invite you to pause and unite your voice with ours in prayer.
Editors Note: SVI Media invites you to join us Thursday morning as Reverend Steve Bibb from Star Valley United Church says a prayer live on the air during SVI Radio’s Weekday Wake-Up. Listen on either Swift 98.7 FM or The Spur 107.5/106.7 FM.
