The Lincoln County Library System is committed to providing quality library services, resources, and programs throughout our communities. However, due to reductions in available funding following property tax changes enacted by the Wyoming Legislature, the Library Board of Trustees has made the difficult decision to adjust operating hours at all library locations.

Beginning August 1, 2026, new library hours will be:

Monday: 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Tuesday: 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

Wednesday: 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

Thursday: 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

Friday: 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Saturday: 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

(La Barge Branch is closed on Saturday.) 

All locations are closed on Sunday.

The Library System’s FY2027 budget was developed in response to significant changes in available funding. Following statewide property tax reductions enacted by the Wyoming Legislature in 2025, and the County’s approved funding level for library operations, the Library Board reviewed all areas of the budget and explored options to reduce expenses while maintaining library access throughout Lincoln County’s six libraries.

Property tax-based funding accounts for approximately 90% of the Library System’s total operating revenue. With limited alternative revenue sources, even modest reductions in property tax funding have a significant impact on library services and operations.

In addition, the Lincoln County Library Foundation has contributed $75,000 to assist the Library System in balancing the FY2027 budget. This one-time support helps offset funding shortfalls; however, it is not a sustainable long-term solution for ongoing operational needs.

Libraries continue to serve as important community resources, offering access to books, technology, educational opportunities, children’s programs, digital resources, public computers, and community connections. These adjustments are intended to preserve these core services across all locations while aligning operations with available funding.

The Library System recognizes that reduced hours may create challenges for patrons, and we appreciate the community’s patience and understanding during this transition. Staff will continue to provide the same level of service and support during open hours.

In November, Wyoming voters will also have an opportunity to consider a ballot proposal that would further reduce property taxes by an additional 25%. Additional reductions in revenue could create further challenges for public services, including libraries.
