United States Congresswoman Harriet Hageman (R-WY) recently spent time visiting schools in Cokeville and Kemmerer, engaging with students and families to gain insights into the local education system. Over the course of her visit, she met with families involved in homeschooling and hybrid education.
“I started in Kemmerer with several families that homeschool their children or have a hybrid situation,” Hageman noted. “Some of them actually attend extracurricular activities either in Cokeville or Kemmerer. All of them seem to be very musically inclined. It sounds like they have great music programs over there.”
During her visit, Hageman attended an assembly at Cokeville High School, where she interacted with students ranging from young children to high school seniors. She expressed her admiration for the level of engagement and enthusiasm she observed among the students.
“I was incredibly impressed with how articulate they were, how well-read they were, and how interested they were in the outside world,” Hageman remarked. “When I went around, especially with the little kids in the first stop outside of Kemmerer, talking to them about their aspirations, they have some ideas about their futures that I don’t think at seven years old I even knew about.”
Hageman emphasized the importance of family involvement in education, stating, “It is clear they’re getting phenomenal education. Their moms and dads are very engaged, and the programs must be phenomenal.”
A key highlight of her visit was the emphasis on music education. “Almost every single one of them talked about the importance of music to them and how good the music programs are,” she explained. Hageman also briefly met with the music teacher in Cokeville, who informed her about an upcoming production of The Phantom of the Opera. “I thought that was just fabulous. He seems like a great guy,” she added.
Hageman’s visit underscores the dedication and enthusiasm present in Wyoming’s educational landscape, reflecting a community committed to nurturing the next generation.
