City of Kemmerer Administrator Brian Muir called into the Weekday Wake-Up on Monday, March 9 for his monthly report. Muir discussed the 50th celebration, Cuby Housing company and a new K-9 officer.

(0:00) A little wake up in your weekday. This is Duke Dallin Dan and the weekday wake up. (0:05) It is nearing 834 this morning on SVI Radio and welcoming on the air this (0:11) morning Brian Muir, City of Kemmerer Administrator for his monthly report (0:16) from Kemmerer.

Good morning Brian, how are you doing today? Wonderful, it’s a beautiful (0:20) day. I appreciate your time as always and thank you for the the update and the (0:24) report on what’s happening. You know of course we hit March that means that July (0:29) is going to be here before we know it in the biggest semi-sequence centennial (0:32) the 250th.

A lot of municipalities putting together some things. What’s (0:37) Kemmerer have in the works for this year? So yeah, we’re actually we’ve been (0:44) working on the some of the events and what we how we might work with the town (0:50) of Diamondville and also with Lincoln County on on that. So we’re still (0:55) planning a lot and we’re looking at doing a commemorative coin to to (1:01) showcase the you know the community a little bit and also celebrate at the (1:05) same time a collectible if you will.

And so we’re still working with Bob King the (1:12) Economic Development Director of Lincoln County and also with Cheryl Sloan who’s (1:17) on the town council Diamondville and Kaylin Williams our events coordinator (1:21) has been working on that. So it’s just still in motion and we’re excited of (1:25) course. Now I remember I was thinking about it this morning one of my (1:30) favorite books I’ve read was by McCullough 1776 on on just how amazing (1:36) how everything came together for our country.

So yeah yeah no doubt at all and (1:41) the coin thing is is really cool. I know the county will have one and as we talked (1:45) to Bob about before and a lot of the the incorporated communities going to have (1:49) coins as well. So excited excited to hear Kemmerer will also have one that’ll be (1:53) great.

That’s the plan and yeah we we had we had actually tried to get some (1:59) funding for it and less was available than they had planned. So we’re we’re (2:05) kind of looking at doing that just got to get final council approval on that so. (2:08) Perfect.

Brian Muir City of Kemmerer Administrator on the weekday wake up this (2:12) morning. Brian give us an update on on QB this housing manufacturer that that (2:17) approached Kemmerer about building a facility in the area and I understand (2:21) that’s continuing to progress forward. Yes the most recent it’s I believe it’s (2:27) pronounced QB and the most recent thing that has occurred is we have changed and (2:34) it’s all final now the zone of the from from the agricultural and residential (2:43) usage over over by the Justice Center there that to to light industrial so (2:49) that has been approved and finalized by the City Council.

We’re still in (2:55) negotiations with them on kind of you know what we want to happen the council (3:00) has made an economic economic development finding so we’re just kind (3:04) of waiting to hear from them to see what their plans are so. All right. And it will (3:10) be we’re hoping for it of course to be the anchor of our light industrial park (3:15) but if not I mean changing that in our opinion to light industrial is the best (3:22) usage of that prop best use of that property anyway it dovetail well across (3:26) straight from the other old light industrial park which is starting to fill (3:31) up so.

Do you have any at this moment in time any other interested applicants in (3:37) that area? We do not so yeah right right now we’re obviously hoping in on them (3:44) and and just kind of waiting to see what they’re going to do so. Brian Muir (3:50) Kemmerer City Administrator on the weekday wake up Brian I understand that (3:53) in the a recent town council meeting a new canine officer was was either (3:58) announced or introduced with the police force at Kemmerer. Yes and I don’t know (4:04) her name yet but she’s a really great addition to to the force and to the (4:13) community she’s still in training of course so it takes time for the for her (4:18) to get used to the trainer which is officer Blasingen is actually the one (4:22) that’s going to be he’s already worked with her and getting trained and is (4:27) going to continue to train her and also we’ve got to figure out our processes (4:32) and how we’re going to you know create policies regarding this new situation (4:41) that we have it’s an opportunity to it’s a it’s a single-use dog I guess is (4:45) mainly for detecting drugs so and we actually saw the the town of Coville (4:54) actually has one and they’ve actually demonstrated theirs and they’ve been (4:58) very pleased with theirs and we’re hoping we’re going to have the same (5:00) success that they have had so excellent Brian anything else happening (5:04) in the city of Kemmerer you’d like to mention today oh well believe it or not (5:09) we had eight inches of snow last week and now it’s gone yeah it’s all melted (5:18) almost almost all melted it appears so but things are warming up and we’re (5:24) getting ready to do we call it hot patching you know excuse me cold patching (5:30) I get that mixed up cold patching where you know this time of the year just try (5:34) to fill in potholes the best you can until the ambient temperature gets a (5:38) little warmer for more permanent fix to the potholes so and staff is working on (5:44) that and we’re getting ready for budgets here just looking forward to a good year (5:51) again and we’re excited that we’re moving forward it sounds like from the (5:57) most part of the legislative sessions went well regarding that and and their (6:02) direct distribution so I think we’re in a good place as we look forward it I’m (6:07) assuming that’s assuming the governor passes everything of course so sure (6:12) that’s City of Kemmerer Administrator Brian Muir this morning in the weekday (6:16) wake up Brian as always appreciate your time in the report today hey thank you (6:20) you bet it’s all part of the weekday wake up on SBI radio
