A new school year will also mean different classification structures for Wyoming High Schools as it pertains to athletics. After using a system based on Average Daily Membership (ADM) figures that utilized set benchmarks to determine which class a school competed, the Wyoming High School Activities Association (WHSAA) was in essence been forced to return to their previous model after shifting ADM figures across the state made that model unsustainable. For example, according to Trevor Wilson of the WHSAA, the previous model would have meant going into this school year with 26 2A schools which was not an option. 

As a result, the model for the 2026-27 and 2027-28 school years will be classified as the following.

For basketball, track and volleyball, the 16 largest enrollments will be 4A, the next 16 largest will be 3A, the next 18 will be 2A and the remaining schools will be 1A. In those sports, Kemmerer will be competing in the 2A Southwest along with Big Piney, Forth Washakie, Saratoga and Wyoming Indian. Teams in the 2A Northwest will be Greybull, Rocky Mountain, Shoshoni, Thermopolis and Wind River. 

Kemmerer is expected to have an average ADM figure of 174. 

Kemmerer will continue to compete in the 2A classification for golf and in the 3A classification for swimming & diving. The Rangers will also continue to be in the 2A West for wrestling for the boys program with the girls program competing in the single-class system across Wyoming. 

Football will continue to use its own classification system which has the top 10 largest schools in 4A, the next 12 are 3A, the next largest 14 are 2A, the next largest 14 are 1A 9-Man with the remaining schools playing 1A 6-Man. The Cokeville Panthers opt up from their ADM assigned football numbers and will continue to play in the 2A West in order to keep playing the 11-man version of the game. Kemmerer and Cokeville will help comprise the conference along with Lovell, Lyman, Mountain View, Pinedale and Thermopolis.
