It’s a month deep into the 2026 Fall sports season and the Kemmerer athletes are now entering the heart of their schedules. Here’s a look at this past weekend and what’s coming up this weekend. 

• Football

After opening up with a convincing neutral site 45-12 win over Moorcroft to start the season, the Rangers were up against the third-ranked team in the WyoPreps.com Coaches and Media Poll in the Thermopolis Bobcats this past week on the road. The score favored the Bobcats in a 22-6 final as the Rangers fell to (1-1) on the season, but it also likely served notice that the Rangers will be a tough team to handle in the 2A West. 

After rolling up the yardage against the Wolves, the running game faced a much stiffer test against the Bobcats, finishing with 106 yards on 25 carries, still good for over four yards per carry. Defensively the Rangers showed their determination as they battled the ‘Cats on 50 carries for a total of 274 yards and the three scores. A pair of turnovers also hampered KHS. 

This week Kemmerer will be at home for the first time as they host the Lyman Eagles (1-1) who are coming off a loss to the Cokeville Panthers. Kickoff time is scheduled for 6 p.m. and SVI Media will have coverage with both video at svi.media and audio in western Wyoming via traditional radio on The Spur. Audio can also be found on the SVI News app. 

• Volleyball

The Lady Rangers competed at the Big Horn Volleyball Tournament and had success with their only loss coming to the top-ranked Rams on their home court. 

On the first day of the tournament the Kemmerer girls opened up with a 2-1 victory over Shoshoni which included a tight 15-13 victory in the third set. After falling to the Rams, they bounced back with a sweep of Rocky Mountain in two sets to close out the opening day. 

On Saturday, the Lady Rangers went 3-0 with sweeps over Wright and Lingle-Ft. Laramie and a gritty 2-1 victory over Thermopolis. Against the Bobcats, the team fell in a hard-fought opening set 24-26 before bouncing back to win the next two. 

This week the Kemmerer spikers will be at the 2A Western Wyoming Volleyball Challenge hosted by Greybull and Thermopolis. On Friday September 18, they will go up against #2 Greybull at noon before facing Rocky Mountain at 2 p.m. and then #4 Southeast at 4 p.m. 

On Saturday, the team will see Thermopolis at 10 a.m. with a match against Shoshoni at 12 noon. The Lady Rangers will close out the tournament with Wind River at 2 p.m.

Kemmerer will be at home for the first time next week as they host the Lyman Eagles on Tuesday evening with a 6 p.m. start time. They will also host Big Piney on Thursday, September 24, at 6 p.m.

• Girls Swimming

The local swimmers hosted their own invite this past Friday and won the meet with a total of 96 points. Sublette County was second with 55 followed by Lyman (42), Rock Springs (31) and Evanston (13). 

The Lady Rangers then competed at the Lyman Invite on Saturday and picked up another team victory with 94 points, outpacing Rock Springs who finished second with 68. Lyman was next with 54 followed by Sublette County (48), Rawlins (30) and Evanston (20). 

This week, the girls will be in Worland for the two-day Warrior Invitational. Other teams expected to compete in Worland include Buffalo, Cody, Douglas, Newcastle, Powell, Riverton as well as the Warriors.
