The 4th Annual Outdoor Discovery Day is scheduled for this Saturday from 10-2 at Triangle Park in Kemmerer. This event was conceived in 2021 by District Ranger Adam Calken as a way for both kids and adults to get a more hands-on experience of how the outdoors works.

Jennifer Ricupero, Partnership Manager of for the Friends of the Bridger-Teton National Forest, spoke with SVI about the organization she represents and the event itself.

“The Friends of the Bridger-Teton is a non profit 501c3 created to protect the 3.1 million acres of the Bridger-Teton,” she said. We work and collaborate to get more done in this beautiful area.”

Some of the projects performed by the group include the creation of outdoor ambassadors who promote responsible recreation. In addition, they also protect and clean campgrounds and punt and clean vault toilets as well as perform other needs.

“We were really honored to bring on five women who were able to clear logs and downed trees and other recreation-related issues, Ricupero added. “We were able to support and assist some efforts in what might have been a more difficult year for those departments.”

When it comes to Outdoor Discovery Day, Ricupero notes that it’s a terrific opportunity to meet and greet people who share common ground when it comes to the outdoors.

This day creates a free and fun environment for education for kids and adults,” she continued. “There are multiple booths and activities. This is the most booths we’ve ever had since the found. We are able to keep it free with the help of our sponsors and there will be free food and refreshments as well as some great Smokey the Bear and Woodsy the Owl swag.”

This fun and informative event promises to have bigger numbers each year.

“We had over 300 come through last year,” Ricupero said. “We are seeing even more interest this year. It’s a safe space to have conversations and share common ground and support outdoor safety. It’s one of our favorite events. Please come on by and enjoy good friends and good people.”
