Day 1 of the Wyoming State Track & Field Championships in Casper were impacted by less than favorable weather which tends to be an annual rite for Cowboy State athletes. Kemmerer High School athletes had fewer events on Thursday as a result but that didn’t stop the squads from scoring points.

On the boys side, the top finish came from Brent Erickson who was third in the 3200-meter run with a time of 10:24.22, missing second place and an all-state designation by less than a second. The boys quartet of Dawson Crosland, Abram Hartmann, Wyatt Miller and Erickson also scored points for the team with a sixth place finish in the sprint medley and a time of 4:04.52.

The Lady Rangers picked up a pair of seventh place finishes as Payton Scherr ran a time of 13:03.94. The girls medley team of Kalyn Lockwood, Riley Meyer, Claire Crosland and Sherr finished with a time of 4:46.34.

The Kemmerer girls were 9th after Day 1 in the team standings with 4 points. The Rangers scored 9 points and were 5th after the first handful of events. The Big Horn girls were out front with 23 points for the 2A girls and Thermopolis led the 2A boys with 14 points but Wright, Tongue River and Big Piney were close behind with 13, 12 and 11 points respectively.
